Let's be internet friends

The year 2014 is now in our midst, and many of us might think that the arrival of a new year will require search engine optimization companies and online corporate businesses to throw existing strategies out the window.

In a way, this is sound advice. After all, with the developments of search engines – particularly the spankin’ new Hummingbird algorithm by Google – we should all create new SEO strategies to ensure the appearance of your website on the first page of search results. However, based on my research, it appears that you don’t need to discard everything that you’ve done in 2013; you have the option to tweak some of them, and still make your website look good to search bots.

To prepare your website for the coming year, I have listed three search engine optimization tips that will figure most prominently in 2014. These tips are based on analysis of SEO experts and the Google Hummingbird algorithm.

1.  Social Media Will Continue To Reign in 2014

Unlike other trends in the past, the concept of social networking does not look like it’s going to die an early death. In fact, social media seems like it’s here to stay for good. As more people sign up for social media accounts, your strategies for optimizing your website for social sharing should also be improving.

For starters, you can strengthen your website’s link to social media sites by putting sharing buttons on your pages. This initial step will make it easier for site visitors to share your content on their respective social networks. In addition, you should also update your site codes to include Facebook Open Graph settings, Twitter cards, and the like.

2.  Google Wants More Local Targets

In as much as search engines like long-tail keywords, Google is now highlighting search results with a local flair. If your company website is focused on a particular location on the globe – a restaurant in New York, a law firm in Phoenix, or a UK movie review website – you should update your keywords and content to emphasize the locality of your choice.

When Google bots discover that your website is optimized for local keywords, your website pages will become linked to related articles from popular review sites or social networks. In other words, being local gives you a new market niche that not many websites have immersed into.

3.  Optimize Your Website For Mobile

More and more mobile devices are coming out, and I don’t think mobile phone and tablet manufacturers are going to retire these products anytime soon. Make sure that your website looks good on tablets and smartphones. How will you know if it does? Check it out yourself!

If something is off, you can always change the codes and plug-ins of your website or you can hire a USA SEO company to do the job for you.

It may look daunting and insurmountable for you right now, but these new SEO challenges for 2014 should inspire you to continue improving your website for search.
